Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a 4A, 10A, and 20A charger?

The “A” stands for amp rating. This rating refers to the amount of power your charger will put into your battery per hour. So a 4A charger will charge at a rate of 4 amps per hour. A 10A charges at a rate of 10 amps per hour, and 20A at 20 amps per hour. It is best to choose a charger with an amp rating that is less than (about ⅓) the amp hour (Ah) rating of your battery.

What kind of charger do I need for my lithium battery?

We recommend charging your LiFePO4 battery with a charger designed specifically for LiFePO4 batteries. Because if you don’t, you’ll likely run into issues, like decreasing the lifespan of the battery and its overall performance.

How fast will my battery charge?

Here’s how to figure out how fast your lithium battery will charge with our Ionic chargers. Take the amp hour rating of your battery and divide it by the number of amps of your charger. For example, a 12V 4A charger will charge a 12V 20Ah battery in 5 hours.

Can I charge other types of batteries with an Ionic 12V charger?

Yes, you can charge lead acid and AGM batteries with our Ionic chargers. However, they are most ideal for lithium batteries. Some functions, such as the charge level and time to charge display on our 4 bank charger, will only work with lithium batteries.

Can I charge lithium batteries and lead acid batteries at the same time?

Yes. When using the 4 Bank 12V 10A charger, you can combine battery types. For example, you could charge 3 Ionic 12v 50ah trolling motor batteries and an AGM starting battery simultaneously.

Can I charge my lithium battery with a normal charger?

Your best bet is to charge your LiFePO4 battery with a battery charger designed specifically for those types of batteries. That said, is it possible? In many cases, yes. It’s just not usually ideal, for a number of reasons.
